POTS
Dr Jessica Povall specialises in treating the following:
POSTURAL ORTHOSTATIC
TACHYCARDIA SYNDROME

POTS is a complex condition that impacts both the musculoskeletal and neurological systems. By taking a functional approach to addressing the root causes of POTS, I offer an effective and non-pharmacological approach to help the autonomic nervous system recover.
With extensive experience treating POTS patients, I focus on supporting nervous system function, building physical tolerance, and promoting recovery without relying on medication.

Autonomic Regulation
The vagus nerve plays a key role in regulating heart rate, breathing, and digestive function. I prescribe targeted exercises designed to improve your body’s ability to regulate blood pressure and heart rate during postural changes, aiming to reduce symptoms such as dizziness and tachycardia.

Exercise Conditioning
I develop carefully tailored exercise programs to improve overall fitness and muscle strength, helping you better tolerate upright posture and daily activities without aggravating symptoms.

Vagal Nerve Stimulation and Photobiomodulation
Non-invasive vagal nerve stimulation techniques, such as vagal nerve stimulator and the use of Photobiomodulation (laser therapy) can support both vagal function and metabolic function.

Tilt Table Testing and Therapy
Tilt table testing is used diagnostically to assess cardiovascular responses to postural changes without muscular involvement. In addition to using Tilt Table Testing as a diagnostic tool, I also incorporate a gradual tilt table therapy in my treatments to progressively increase tolerance to upright positioning, getting a better cardiovascular response to being upright. Thus, this can improve tolerance for tasks of standing, walking, and eventually exercise.

Addressing Pain: Headaches and ‘Coat Hanger Pain’
Gentle hands-on physiotherapy supports management of pain, particularly headaches and neck/shoulder discomfort often referred to as ‘coat hanger pain’ in POTS. Techniques such as dry needling can also effectively alleviate pain while supporting autonomic regulation.

Physiotherapy treatments are available both in-person and via Telehealth, providing flexible, comprehensive care tailored to your individual needs.
